Mehdi Snene, Ph.D., is Head of AI and Digital Program at the United Nations and Senior Advisor on AI and digital transformation in the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology. He leads global initiatives on AI for development, digital public infrastructure, open-source AI and large-scale compute, with a focus on inclusion, interoperability and governance.
Previously, Mehdi was Technical Director of the €1 billion Human Brain Project at EPFL and founding CEO and Chief AI Officer at I-DAIR, where he built federated AI and data infrastructures for health. He also founded INFIM, advancing AI-enabled digital infrastructure across Africa to address SDG challenges through multi-stakeholder collaboration.
